    FROM GRAEME TURK:

Just a few notes of thanks for the Group Ride leaders.

I started riding early this year after several decades away from bikes and have had great support from the Dutton Shop staff and Club in getting going.

Kurt checked over the second hand roady I bought for a song to get started and set me up with the essentials.

I then did a few rides with Shane’s Sunday group to get a hang of things and then concentrated on building speed and distance by riding solo with the aim of qualifying for the 25kph group but try as I might could never get to 25kph for the 50k distance.

After a chat with Kurt he encouraged me to try Ride 2 so a couple of Sunday’s back fronted up at 0630 and was welcomed by ride leaders for the day Tony and Amanda. Good pace to Woody Point, Coffee and Cake at Tony and Amanda’s followed by the reverse route home and managed to stay with them until the last pinch up Mango Hill for an average of 25kph dead. Smiles all around .... what a way to start the day.

Since that ride I have managed to tick off the 100k ride and a couple of days later improved my solo average time for the Woody Point return ride by nearly one kph.

Thanks all for your welcome and encouragement along the way.

    To whom it may concern,

My name is Joshua Donchi and I am the National Events Manager for Kidney Health Australia. I am writing in regards to an exciting new initiative which we have started which is called “Pedal for Prevention”. These are a series of 4 cycling adventures throughout the year which people can choose which one they like and raise the necessary funds to participate. We are starting with a 9 day (7 cycling) tour of Tasmania which incorporates the beautiful east coast.

Pedal for Prevention is very unique as it allows individuals to raise the minimum amount for entry ($4000) through tax deductible donations and then effectively go on a cycle tour at no cost as all cost (accommodation, food and support vehicles) are included. Everybody wins! Many people are able to solicit donations for an amazing cause by partaking in a cycling challenge that can push all levels of cyclists. Spots are strictly limited to 25 for each tour so get on board quickly.

We would love if you could pass this information onto your cycling club, or you can direct them to www.pedalforprevention.org.au

If you would like more information on this event, please do not hesitate to contact me directly on 03 9674 4310, or via return email.

    SUBMITTED BY DAVID STEPHENSON:

Four of us went to an orientation evening last Wednesday Evening to gather as much data as possible.

Saturday August 20 2011 – Ride 100k out of Brisbane-Camp at Wivenhoe Dam

Sunday August 21 2011 Arrive back in Brisbane via a different route another 100ks.

(All food and camping facilities are provided)

The Impact: the Mission is Clear: to Conquer Cancer

Your efforts in the Ride to Conquer will benefit the Queensland Institute of Medical Research (QIMR). Currently 1 in 2 men and 1 in 3 women will be diagnosed with cancer before the age of 85. The need for advanced treatments and preventions is great. That is why QIMR devotes half of its research to understanding the causes of cancer and developing better diagnostics of treatments. In other words your participation will accelerate the conquest of cancer.

We would like to generate as much interest as possible with club members. We have club members who have encountered sessions of cancer so the focus is even more appropriate.

You will need to register as an individual as a member of a team and each member is expected to raise $2500 which sounds a great deal, but if some folk can Conquer Cancer we can Conquer the Fund Raising expectations.

We need to run this by the executive and then have an evening of information sharing.  We would like to make it one of our goals for 2011.

    Date Announced - 7 November 2010

Update for entrants in the postponed 2010 Wilson HTM Brisbane to the Gold Coast 100km and the Wilson HTM Logan to the Gold Coast 60km Cycle Challenge:

Bicycle Queensland has worked through the major logistical issues of the postponement of the event and can announce Sunday 7 November as the new date for the Wilson HTM Brisbane to the Gold Coast 100km and the Wilson HTM Logan to the Gold Coast 60km Cycle Challenge.

All current entries will be valid for 7 November, provided all rider kits (including bike bib and wrist bands) have been retained.

As a special concession to current entrants, those who are unable to participate on the new date will be able to transfer their entry to another rider at no cost. The replacement rider will need to complete a transfer entry form online (conditions will apply). Online entries and transfers will be available from Tuesday 26 October.

Entries close 5pm Monday 1 November.  No late entries or entries on the day will be accepted.

Keep up-to-date via the Bicycle Queensland website, Twitter, Facebook and email.

Don't have someone to transfer your ride entry to? Try one of the online forums (e.g. BQ's Facebook page, Roadgrime or MTB Dirt)

Thank you for your patience and for your continued support of Bicycle Queensland.
